Cataracts
Regular eye examinations can detect early loss of sight from cataracts. Inside the eye, there is a crystalline lens which gets cloudy as we age. Initially, the effect is small with minor change in the vision. With time, however, more mature cataracts can compromise our sight with blurring, haziness, glare, or loss of color saturation.
Nowadays, cataracts are treated readily as an outpatient surgery. The cataract surgery has become sophisticated to the point where a bifocal intraocular lens can be placed to eliminate the need for reading glasses after surgery.
